Shades of Pale Brewing Company produces craft beer in Park City, Utah. They wanted a brand that would communicate the sense of adventure and the camaraderie one finds in the outdoors.
Whether it is SEO, Web Development, Social Media Marketing, Logo Design, or Print Advertising, there is a lot of design work that goes into making it look easy.
Making the so-called "hand" or technique of the artist or engineer unnoticeable takes a lot of skill and experience.
For example, in this design study for Shades of Pale (which we later used as the basis for beer bottles) explores the branding images we needed to imbue the logo with. We wanted to depict excitement (hence the downhill skier), a sense of adventure, and camaraderie. Note the subtleness in how all that is achieved by reducing the visual elements to only a few colors and an image of a skier (that together imply outdoor activity and adventure).
For the more observant, you will notice that our Art Director also added visual mechanisms that forces the viewer's eyes to look at the components of the image in a prescribed sequence. First the banner, next the skier, and then the logo marque.
It typically takes our skilled designers 200 hours to get a good design from which to start with (and this piece was no exception). It takes at least over 50 steps to come up with a Talino Design piece. More if it is going to be part of a web site.
It takes tenacity and dedication to find the ONE design that will ring true to the desired branding message.
Every good design must have unmatched standards of technique around the use of color, gradients, and fonts carefully blended in proportions that will match the persuasion architecture required by the client.
At the end of the day, however, it is the SIMPLICITY of the design that provides impact and leaves the audience with something to remember.
Formidable web design requires the practiced eye of a craftsman, the expressiveness of an artiste, and the pragmatic and logical approach of a systems engineer.
To appreciate a Talino Design website, look beyond details. Look at its intent. Some may not be obvious (because they were designed that way), but try looking deeper into the proportions of the site, why uncommon color was used, and why the Art Director chose those fonts. At Talino Design we understand that an image (whether that is a banner or a button) for web marketing requires an inner understanding of how to present a brand. Once we release a design, we are certain that it will contribute to the web marketing efforts of the client.
At only about 9 square inches or so, the typical beer label has a gigantic job to do: convince the consumer it is the best one among a multitude of beer labels on a typical grocery shelf.
It takes meticulous attention to detail to design the perfect label. Is the angle of the rider just right? Who much detail and contrast is needed? What about government requirements like mandatory information? Where do we put the name of the beer? the name of the brewery?
When we have exhausted all our questions (the fun part about our brand engineering methodology), then we look at the piece again, and again, and again.
Until it is perfect.
Innovation is about experimentation AND the willingness to throw pieces away.
At Talino Design, we explore a lot of design avenues for each of our clients. Most do not make it past our high demands for innovation. Those that do, we then subject to rigorous branding engineering methodology.
Here is a sample that made it to the final 5.
Simplicity is about removing everything that is not necessary.
The temptation to put everything into a design is an overwhelming tendency that we've learned to curb. Our clients typically have a hard time adjusting to a smaller more compact message. That is, until they see the finished work.
Up next: new website design, print ads, business cards, and SEO.
Sometimes a traditional logo can outlive its usefulness. Especially if your market changes. So you invest in establishing a new brand.
Noble Pride came to us, when they decided to shift their market to the upscale Pebble Beach and Carmel, California neighborhoods. They needed a logo that is both memorable, modern, fun, and at the same time conveyed stability, responsibility, and modern.
It took us over 300 hours of sketching different models before we settled on the 5 candidates. This is the one Noble Pride chose. We think it was a wise choice, but then, we're a little biased.
Sharon M. Wesley MD needed a Brand that would convey her identity for an expanding medical practice. The Branding and Identity needed to reflect both a mathematical and scientific side, balanced with an Asian-influenced philosophy and aesthetic. The color palette is truly unique, with a feeling of warmth and abundance. The logo mark reads as lettering, symbol, and "chop"—and can be used as a border pattern as well as in a compact square format.
Talino Design is about communicating. Whether it is SEO, Social Media, Web Development, or a professional business card.
A piece by Talino Design is engineered to communicate along many dimensions. Nothing is included by mistake.
Take this card for example. Subtle color shifts, mathematical elements (the built-in protractor and ruler), and a classic font work together to communicate the nature of the business. Printed on two sides, a heavy 120 lb weight paper would also tell us that the card is from a business that serves the uber-chic environs of Pebble Beach, California.
Upscale design for the luxury market (Pebble Beach, California, for example) requires a higher level of finesse and artistic taste.
In addition to the branding, the focus of the design is in communicating high performance, top-notch engineering, and unparalled luxury. Striking a delicate balance among these elements so the work doesn't become gaudy-looking needs a formidable attention to detail.

SEO, Social Media Marketing, & Web Development are process services.
Here at Talino Design, we always start from the premise of PURPOSE. We create a blank slate and include the design elements we think needs to be included and then remove everything else.
The example here shows all the design elements stripped down to its bare minimum. From here, our Art Director will include the layout for content. After that, our SEO experts, Social Media Professionals, and User Interface Experience designers will take over. They will annotate the locations where your content will best be viewed, what keywords should go into the upper half of the screen versus the bottom half, and so on.
When we design the Branding, Logo, and Identity for a business, we start with what sets that business apart. For the Law Offices of Laura A. Davis, we determined through client interviews and research that Laura's intelligence, precision, and warmth are a major part of what makes the business unique. Then we set about conveying those qualityies through a custom and unique logo design (and color palette) that truly reflects the business.
Hotel Abrego came to us for a full Branding Strategy, including Logo and Identity design, Signage, Advertising, and other components. As a new upscale boutique hotel in Monterey, Hotel Abrego needed to establish a Brand and matching visual imagery reflecting their nature—and attracting prospective guests and meeting planners. We created an identity that is truly unique, and that can be used on everything from signs to chocolates left on the pillows.
